Did you come to BETT and visit the LGfL stand? It was hard to miss with 'Jet Pack Girl' flying overhead.
The buzz and excitement were palpable, especially as this year we had a presentation space where LGfL staff showcased many of the services and resources.
To top off three action-packed days, we were delighted to be awarded two BETT awards.
We were awarded highly commended in the category 'Wellbeing and Safeguarding Resource of the Year' for our Safe Skills resource, and we won the BETT award for 'IT services of the year.' Amazing!
LGfL Safe Skills - a reminder of a BETT award-winning resource
SafeSkills is an online tool that helps schools teach and track online safety for students in years 5-8 (with future features for older SEND students). It covers 8 key areas of digital life, based on UK government guidelines. Teachers can use it to see how students, classes, and the whole school are doing and identify where to focus. Kids can take the quizzes at school or at home. Schools need to register to get a teacher login, which takes a few days.
If you would like to find out more about safe skills we regularly run safe skills surgery sessions to access practical advice and support. We demonstrate the functionality of the system and answer any queries you have, in order to enable you to start using the tool with your pupils.
Farrah Khalifa from St Paul’s Catholic School, Leicester explains how she used SafeSkills and why she reached 35,000 questions answered within the first week!
1. Free Online Resources: A new UDL (Universal Design for Learning) portal (udl.lgfl.net) explains using UDL principles. 2. Expert Online Training: LGfL Inspire offers courses on using iPads for accessibility and communication, and creating a digital strategy for mental health and wellbeing.
3. Study Tours: Visit schools like Woodland Academy Trust, Whitefield Primary School, Lawford C of E Primary School, and Exning Primary School to see inclusive practices firsthand.
Developed in partnership with the Manchester Museum palaeontologist and LGfL's curriculum team, "Fossils and Dinosaurs" is an online resource for EYFS, KS1, and KS2 learners. Like LGfL's "Space Adventures," it models best practices for using online and immersive technologies to support all learners. It incorporates Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles for accessibility and engagement.
This resource addresses common misconceptions by providing expert-reviewed content and utilising engaging video content to enhance learning.
"Fossils and Dinosaurs" is designed for Key Stage 1 and 2, with EYFS resources also included. Its inclusive design and its specific inclusion section make it accessible to a wide range of learners, potentially even older students. The resource creates a flexible learning environment for diverse learning needs. LGfL strives to develop accessible resources throughout its curriculum resources.
