Important LGfL Conference - 24th February

A very important LGfL Conference will be held on 24th February (9am to 4pm).

The event will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, Cybersecurity, Digital Strategy and Safeguarding, along with important announcements regarding the future of LGfL and products.

Education speakers include:

Chris Dyson – A nationally recognised Headteacher and Deputy CEO of a MAT

Melissa McBride - A thought leader in the use of the "Metaverse" in Education

Mark Bentley (LGfL) - National safeguarding thought leader and policy influencer

The technical workstreams will focus on cybersecurity, the future of LGfL and contributions from world-leading technology companies including Sophos, CISCO and Malwarebytes along with LGfL Technical Leads and Adept (formerly Atomwide). Leading practitioners will include Abid Patel, a Digital and Cloud Leader within a MAT and David Coombe (LGfL) former IT Director for a MAT.

Child Bereavement

The Child Bereavement Network, of which Child Bereavement UK is a member, is currently collecting information about grief education and has a survey for professionals working in schools. They want you to help them to understand what it is like to have conversations about grief and bereavement in your education setting

After engaging with over 31,000 primary, secondary and college students through VotesforSchools, the UK Commission on Bereavement recently recommended that all children and young people should have age-appropriate opportunities to learn about coping with death and bereavement as part of life. Please take a look at the LGfL Child Bereavement Portal to guide you on how to start these discussions.

ReadingZone Live - Upcoming Author Events

The ReadingZone Bookclub programme of free virtual author events is aimed at classrooms keen to develop a love of reading and is aimed at ages 5-12 years. These events are open to schools and classrooms, and are free to join!

Celebrate World Book Day with Andy Jones; Friday 3rd March, 2pm - 2.45pm
For Yr3 - Yr 6 (ages 8-11)
Andy Jones will introduce his hilarious new book, Bob vs the Selfie Zombies, in a fun, interactive event that focuses on reading for enjoyment as part of our World Book Day celebrations.

Learn about Weather with Caryl Hart; Friday 10th March, 2pm - 2.45pm
For Reception & Year 1 (ages 4-6)
Caryl Hart will introduce children to her bestselling series, Meet the Weather, Meet the Oceans, and Meet the Planets, introducing children to concepts and facts about weather and other KS1 topics, and exploring non-fiction texts.

World War II mystery with Rhian Tracey; Friday 24th March, 2pm - 2.45pm
For Yr5 & Yr6 (ages 9-11)
Author Rhian Tracey introduces I, Spy, her adventurous and thrilling new book set in Bletchley Park at the start of World War II, based on true events and inspired by her great-aunt Audrey, who was a codebreaker!

The Digital Transformation Toolkit (DTT)

The *new* LGfL Digital Transformation Tool (DTT) is available in beta form for schools and MATs to engage with as part of their own self-assessment on their current stage of digital transformation. It has been designed to identify key criteria to support the successful implementation of digital technologies to effectively support all aspects of a school community.

The tool provides automated reporting with a data dashboard of the results, complete with the ability to track change over time. In addition, the report includes automated signposting to high quality and relevant support material, that will help ensure any school engaging in the tool makes further progress and help maximise the impact of LGfL services.

Google Learning Festivals

A reminder that Google LGFL events, offerings and resources can be found by clicking the button "LGfL Workshops" below (scroll down to where you see the LGfL logo under "training & offerings").

You also have the opportunity to visit LGfL schools in Kent, London and more locations across the country to observe lessons with pupils that showcase how Google Workspace & Chromebooks work as fantastic tools in the classroom. Go beyond searching, writing letters and making presentations to inspire creative projects designed to expand minds and engage students.

EdTech Hubs - Teach Meet & Spring Study Tours

Our EdTech Hubs are communities of practice providing peer-to-peer support for the effective use of technology for enhancing teaching and learning in schools and colleges across England. Upcoming events are outlined below:

Book to attend Bucks EdTech Hub Launch 9/2

The launch of Bucks EdTech Hub hosted by Danesfield School, Henley Road, Medmenham, Marlow
Bucks SL7 2EW on 9th February at 10am.

Visit Danesfield School to see EdTech in action and begin your journey of support and education inspiration.

The Study Tour is hosted by Cheam Common Junior School, LEO Academy Trust, Worcester Park, Surrey on 27th February 2023 (1pm to 4:30pm).

The focus is 'Effective Maths Teaching and Learning Across the Primary Curriculum: Maximising the Role of EdTech' .

The first Teach Meet event will be hosted by RGS Worcester Upper Tything Worcester WR1 1HP on Thursday 9th March at 5:30-7pm.

Presenters and guests from the education community are welcome to join to connect, learn and share about all things Edtech.
