LGfL EdTech Hubs - Upcoming Online Events

Launch of LGfL's PedTech Portal

PedTech is very simply about putting pedagogical intentions first, and the technology serving those intentions second. But we need to pause for a moment and be really clear about why it means something different to EdTech. Conversations about EdTech are generally framed by systems and processes. PedTech turns this on its head; with PedTech we start by thinking about pedagogical intentions.

Frozen Kingdoms Pupil Event

Real life Polar Explorer, Antony Jinman, will host an online session for children studying the topic 'Frozen Kingdoms' on 17th October 2-2:40pm. Covering Frozen Kingdoms and what it is like to visit the North and South Poles. Register your interest here: https://landing.lgfl.net/frozen-kingdoms

Google for Education LGfL Workshops

Google have listened to teachers and developed a new round of training opportunities for teachers in LGfL schools. They are initially launching several workshops that are interactive, pedagogically focused sessions based around Google Workspace and Chromebooks.

What are the Workshops about?

The half day workshops will have Chromebooks provided and include the following topics:

🧬 Delivering effective Primary Science learning with Google Workspace - 9th November 9am-12pm

🧬 Delivering effective Secondary Science learning with Google Workspace - 9th November 1pm -4pm

🪁 Primary Learning with Google Workspace - 30th November 9am-12pm

👩🏾‍💻 How to use Google Tools effectively as a Primary Subject Leader - 30th November 1pm - 4pm

All sessions will be taking place at LGfL Offices in Liverpool Street, London and snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Something Powerful

In England, there has been limited research to investigate how primary-aged students from different backgrounds engage with computing lessons. The Raspberry Pi Foundation is conducting research to investigate how to create culturally adapted computing resources for primary classroom use. In the research, teachers will attend a full-day workshop on 2nd November in Cambridge where they will be introduced to culturally relevant pedagogy and contribute ideas on how to adapt two existing Years 4 and 5 units of work. The research team will then adapt the materials.

In the spring term of 2023, teachers will be provided with adapted units of work and asked to deliver them to their classes. As a celebration of the study and to share experiences, teachers will also be invited to a post-intervention meetup in the summer term. There will be funding available to schools for supply costs and travel to support teachers’ attendance at the workshop and the meetup. If you would like to take part in the project you can find out more here.

World's Largest Lesson

Join the World’s Largest Lesson and Give Students a Voice (Pupil Event) 

Do you believe students should have a say in education? Throughout 2022, world leaders are discussing education at global summits, and we think they should be informed by those for whom school matters most - students themselves. 

Ask your students (aged 10 - 18) to play the World’s Largest Lesson’s Transforming Education Survey created in partnership with UNICEF, UNESCO and NetApp.

• The most global survey on education ever created for this age group 
• Completely anonymous and only takes 10 minutes to play online
• Asks students to consider the purpose of education, how they learn best and what they’d change 
• Views will be shared with national policy leaders, at the UN and also students and teachers. 

It’s a great classroom or homework activity to get students thinking about why education matters. It might even get families talking!. Find the survey link and an optional lesson plan here.
