To help you prepare for Safer Internet Day, we have a 20 minute DigiSafe assembly / class session for you to watch with your class and key updates for parents and carers

| View in browser Dear Colleague,  Safer Internet Day assembly for KS2 - watch with your class 2021 worst year for online child sexual abuse - 7-10 year olds much more at risk than before; parent updates and support       To help you prepare for Safer Internet Day, we will be running a 20 minute assembly / class session for you to watch with your class at sid.lgfl.net . As well as providing an opportunity for group discussion, it will feature pupil voices and be available to watch in the week beginning Monday 7 February, so you can pick any slot that suits you. We will be adding more details over the coming days, but it will: contain a video which will be ready for teacher preview by Friday 4 February at the latest  be aimed at 7 - 11 year olds  focus on gaming with an extract from the 'gaming friends' scenario on this page, with new age-appropriate questions include the 'Undressed' song and questions here (check it out, especially in the light of the latest news from the IWF) Don't forget to bookmark  sid.lgfl.net and share with staff and colleagues. Access DIgiSafe Safer Internet Day Assembly       Latest IWF statistics have reported that  "2021 was the worst year on record for online child sexual abuse" highlighting: Internet grooming of children has surged during lockdown A 3-fold increase in online sexual abuse imagery featuring 7 to 10-year-olds A large increase in self-generated material – where children are manipulated into recording their own abuse before it is shared online Fastest growing increase occurred among seven to 10-year-olds. In light of this, it's vital parents realise that this is not just a teenage issue, but can also affect primary aged children, with the abuse often happening in young children’s bedrooms. So do take this opportunity to remind parents about parental controls, safe settings and monitoring, and tell them about our parentsafe.lgfl.net website where they can find out more, as well as our 'Undressed' song and animation to reinforce key safety messages.
