Do you know the latest online harms which your students may be exposed to from the thousands of new generative AI sites? Are you aware of AI girlfriends, nudifying apps and more?
Gen AI (generative artificial intelligence) is now everywhere, but is your safeguarding team aware of the latest online harms your students may be exposed to from thousands of new apps and sites? Are teachers and parents aware of AI girlfriends, nudifying apps and more?
We have created two new video sessions for staff and parents and also collated the latest resources from other organisations for you to use and share:
VIDEO - information on the latest harms landscape for teachers and parents
VIDEO - a 'Part 2' training follow-up session for school staff to explore the latest DfE guidelines, approaches and discussion questions for a meeting or inset
NEW SAFERESOURCES FILTER - we have added and updated our AI filter on the LGfL safe resources portal, which collates resources from others for you to use
It is really key to know what your young people are doing online, and what they think - you could share our Primary and Secondary Gen AI videos (from the same YouTube playlist) with students, but remember above all to find out what their experiences are.
Why not get students to teach teachers and parents what they are experiencing? NB - if you aren't in the DSL team, be sure to talk to them first.
We have updated our Safe Resources filter for AI - click hereto find all the quality resources we have found for you.
Below is one example of an excellent new resource by the WeProtect Global Alliance (to be used in school with caution!) - it has scenarios of the harms mentioned acted out and with text messages explaining what is going on, which may be useful in classes, even if only a screenshot.
And finally, do check out this new report from the NSPCC - it has a great summary and also quotes from young people talking to Childline about their experiences.
We hope you find this content useful. Please let us know your feedback and of course, how else we can support you in this, or indeed any other area of safeguarding.
