Have Your Say

There are a lot of awareness days/months at the start of the school year. How do you feel about these and what could LGfL do to help you get the most out of them?

This month it's not just one question and it'll therefore probably take you a couple of minutes to complete rather than a couple of seconds! But, as always, your views are so valuable to us so if you have those couple of minutes, please use them to help us to help you.  

The TES SEN Show 8-9 October

We aren't sure if we've mentioned it, but did you know we are the Headline Sponsors of the TES SEN Show! We couldn't be more excited for one of the biggest events in the inclusion calendar to come around again.

Our Updated Training Programme

Spotlight Resource of The Month - Multisensory Learning

It is often towards the start of the year I like to remind our community about Multisensory Learning. This resource was developed in partnership with the almost legendary duo of Richard and Louis Hurstwood from Hurstwood Training. 

Why this resource you might ask me? Well, I will give you 5 great reasons.

1. It contains a sensory environment audit which is simple to use and when better than the start of term to do an audit and check if your classroom/school is a sensory-friendly environment?
2. A new school year often means lots of new staff. Do they all know how important it is to meet the sensory needs of your learners? The modules in this resource will give them a good starting point and a basic understanding of this vitally important area.
3. A good time of year to start good practices such as having access to affordable sensory equipment and sensory spaces even if you are limited on space and budget. Guess what? There are modules for that in this resource! 
4. Richard Hurstwood's voice, somehow that guy could read a shopping list and I'd find it interesting! He does all the narration, but joking aside everything is so clearly and simply explained it's suitable for almost anyone, no matter their level of experience. 
5. A multisensory approach to learning is something that we should all be aspiring to bring into every lesson we teach. It is great not only for learners with SEND but it's good for everyone and can really bring learning to life.

A Refugee's Story

Our friends at Beyond Words have been working on one of their wordless storybooks to help support those who may have been forced to flee their homes. They are still working on the final version but as a response to the situation in Afghanistan and an influx of refugees, they have shared an early released "abridged draft" version, which you can download from their site right now.
