LGfL: Bett Show March 2022

Welcome to this special edition of the LGfL newsletter focussing purely on LGfL at the Bett Show.

Our stand at Bett was buzzing (and not just because of the amount of caffeine that people were consuming)! People were really positive about our campaigns and activities throughout the pandemic. Watch the buzz below and read on for more...

LGfL Bett Awards

This year LGfL - National Grid for Learning, was shortlisted in four Bett Award categories and we won two! The two categories we were winners in were:

• Wellbeing, Digital Wellness & Safeguarding Resources (GoingTooFar? - Extremism and the Law)
• Technical or IT Support Service

We were also shortlisted for a further two awards in the following categories:

• Company of the Year (more than 3m - National Grid for Learning)
• Hardware, AV, VR/AR, Robotics or Digital Device (Ohbot in partnership with LGfL - Picoh Robot head).

LGfL Bett Presentations

'Making it Click' presentation was delivered by Bob Usher (LGfL Content Manager) to raise awareness of the IncludED service at LGfL on the Wednesday.

'EdTech 50 - Can Schools Combat Digital Poverty?' panel event was held on the Thursday and 'The Edtech50, Celebration, Ambition and Inspiration' presentation was given on the Friday. (See EdTech 50 21/22)

Bob Usher, Phil Birchinall (Senior Director Of Immersive Content, Discovery Education) and Simon Pile (Deputy Headteacher, Anson Primary School, Apple Distinguished Educator, Into Film Ambassador) presented 'Immersive Learning and Making' on the main stage at Bett on the Friday. In addition, Kelly Hannaghan - Mental Health and Wellbeing Consultant who delivers training for LGfL and collaborated on LGfL's resource Wellbeing Connected was on panels and giving presentations about wellbeing. (See MHWB.lgfl.net) 

SandboxAR Pilot

Sophos Surgeries with CyberCloud

Lots of LGfL customers took advantage of the hands-on review of their current Sophos Central Setup by booking a 20-minute session with our in-house expert. LGfL Stand NF31

We were joined on our stand by many of our partners. 

AdEPT (previously Atomwide) as in previous years was our neighbouring stand, whilst the BusyThings team joined us for a second year demoing to our Let's Get Digital customers one of the premium learning platforms they get as part of their LGfL subscription. (They were also Bett Award winners so on the Thursday our stand proudly displayed three awards).

Dan Warner, a primary teacher and ICT specialist spent some time demoing Ohbot and Picoh. (See nsl.lgfl.net for more about this).

Phil Birchinall (Senior Director Of Immersive Content) from Discovery Education shared the SandboxAR platform. (See immersion.lgfl.net)

Tower Hamlets Edtech Hub teachers from Lansbury Lawrence Primary and Swanlea (See edtechth.lgfl.net). 

Maths Week London Grants

Maths Week London is taking place between 27 June – 1 July 2022 and the Mayor's Fund for London are once again excited to be a partner again this year. The initiative seeks to encourage a positive attitude towards maths amongst young people in London; to improve their confidence and promote the value of good numeracy as an essential and achievable skill for every child. 

To support and encourage schools to run their own activities and events during the week, the Mayor’s Fund for London is running a small grants scheme of up to £250 on behalf of Maths Week London for schools to access; the grants are available to a limited number of London primary and secondary schools to support the purchase of any resources or equipment you may need to run an event or specific activities. Schools will be expected to set out what resources they need and the cost of these resources.

The application deadline is 1 April 2022, with the winning schools notified by May 2022. Please note that schools that received a grant in 2021 are unfortunately not able to apply again this year. 

The Bett Show 2022 gave the LGfL Team the opportunity to celebrate lots of great projects and campaigns that have developed since Bett 2020.
