The Wiener Holocaust Library and Resources
The Wiener Holocaust Library, based in Russell Square, is the world’s oldest Holocaust archive and the most significant collection of its kind in Britain. Through its various activities, including an open reading room, exhibitions and events, it aims to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the Nazis’ persecution of Jews and the Holocaust, as well as other genocides. One of the ways in which the Library attempts to help students and teachers approach this complex topic is through our education programme and popular website The Holocaust Explained.
The site, which is designed with the British curriculum in mind and is accessible within schools, has hundreds of accurate, informative articles accompanied by relevant primary sources as well as survivor video testimony, a timeline, and a section dedicated to educational resources for teachers - with downloadable lesson packs on a variety of topics in one, easy-to-use document for pre-planned and adaptable lessons. On top of this important resource, the Library also offers in-person tours of our archive, as well as in-person and virtual workshops for both teachers and students.
The Library’s educational resources are completely free, and they can adapt their offering to suit your students. To find out more visit The Holocaust Explaineddirectly or get in touch viatheir website.
