GridStore backup

Recent high-profile cyberattacks on schools have highlighted the importance of backing up mission-critical data. Schools need secure offsite backups. GridStore does just this - for individual files and folders, entire servers or even Office 365 and Google Workspace data.

At LGfL we understand that knowing where to start with cybersecurity can be daunting. We've been working in the background on template polices, security audits, Cyber Essentials support and other documentation to download and tailor to your school. We will let you know as soon as they become available.

Free CyberCloud Training - Ideal for SBMs

LGfL is running new security training designed by the National Cyber Security Centre. There are spaces available on the 15th and 21st July. Sign up and find further details here. Note that the session is not technical, so great for SLT and particularly helpful for the school business manager.

Sophos Enterprise Console

Sophos has announced the end of support for the on-premise Sophos Enterprise Console in July 2023. If you're not using the cloud version of Sophos ('Sophos Central' accessed via https://cloud.sophos.com/manage/login) you should start planning your migration. LGfL schools can claim free licenses via the form here.

Cyber Essentials Readiness Tool

IASME has launched a free online tool that can help guide you through a series of questions related to the Cyber Essentials criteria. These can help you prepare your school for certification.

End-of-Life operating systems

Many schools are still using operating systems that are out of date. These devices no longer receive security updates, making them easy targets for hackers. If your devices use any of the following, consider upgrading or replacing them

Windows Server 2008 - EoL Jan 2020

Windows 7 - EoL Jan 2020

Windows 10 v1903 (or lower) 

macOS High Sierra 10.13 (or lower)

If they can't be updated and it's not possible to replace them, it's worth considering the cost-effective solution Neverware. Neverware's CloudReady operating system is based on Google's Chromium OS and can make old devices faster and more secure. LGfL has an amazing deal with Google for Neverware licenses.

NCSC Early Warning System

NCSC now has an Early Warning System that you can sign your school up to. They'll monitor threat intelligence feeds for issues with your network. It takes just minutes to sign up and may help you make your school more secure. 

Technical Tips

Want to know how you can make Microsoft 365 more secure? Admins can use the Secure Score Tool. It will guide you through different settings, policies, and approaches you can take to harden your Microsoft Cloud. It will also give you a score showing how you're processing and compares you to other similar organisations.
