LGfL CyberSecurity Newsletter

Dear Colleague ,

It's been another year of turmoil with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) issuing multiple alerts for the education sector. We've seen more and more schools and universities fall victim to ransomware attacks and urge everyone to read their guidance on mitigating malware and ransomware attacks.

In this mini summer edition you will find:

  • Elevate Your Security - Our security templates are nearly here.
  • Summer Works - Lots of work to do over the summer, housekeeping, patching, and preparing donated devices?

'Elevate' Your Security

We're in the final steps of finishing our cybersecurity templates that you'll be able to use to 'Elevate' security in your school. Keep an eye on our Twitter account @lgflcybercloud over the summer for further announcements.

Summer works

Housekeeping

We know the summer is a great time to work on IT projects while teachers and students are away. We appreciate that for support teams this is not a holiday, so why not combine efforts by reviewing security and who has admin rights part of your annual roll-up process? It's also a great opportunity to review and test your Major Incident Response plans.

Security Patching

Criminals schedule cyberattacks when people are busy and stressed. For example, around the end of the financial year, major public holidays, or significant events. If you have any outstanding updates now is a great time to make sure all your systems are up to date.

Donated Devices

If one of the things on your summer to-do list is setting up donated devices, why not read this guidance from the NCSC to ensure that they're properly prepared before being used in school.

Feedback

We’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas for content that can be included in the newsletter or if you have a story you would like to share. We would also love to hear if you have any suggestions for cybersecurity tools or services that you would like to see from LGfL. To get in touch please email cybercloud@lgfl.net

Kind regards,

Your CyberCloud Team
