Have Your Say - This Month: Win Free Stuff

Generally we ask you a question in this section of the newsletter; with members of our community generously taking the time to share their thoughts so we can make sure we are doing our very best to help our community.  However, this month we would like to give a little something back.

To mark International Dyslexia Awareness Week, our Friends at Nessy are providing free access to some of their resources and online dyslexia training during October. To find out more, e-mail: schools@nessy.com. 

They have also agreed to let us have a prize of five Nessy Licences to give away to one lucky member of our community. All you have to do is click the button below to enter your name, the name of your school and your work e-mail address and make sure you are a subscriber to this newsletter. 

On the 20th of October, we will draw a name at random and the lucky winner will get their school the five licences. There's only one entry per person (but as many as you like per school) so feel free to get colleagues to enter for more chances to win!

The TES SEN Show 8-9 October

If you are coming to the TES SEN Show on the 8th and/or 9th of October do come by our stand (189) and say "hi". We've got some great goody bags planned and will be on hand to discuss our resources, training and the other ways that LGfL is supporting inclusion. 

IncludED's Adam Gordon will be delivering sessions on both days of the show at the Exhibitor Workshop Theatre. These sessions are free to attend, so do come along if you have the time:

Spotlight Resource of The Month - Going Too Far?

Going Too Far is a new resource jointly developed by the Department for Education and our DigiSafe team that aims to promote critical thinking and build resilience in young people to extremism and online harms. Using recent case studies, and with discussion points built-in, this interactive resource helps young people explore the techniques used by extremists and evaluate digital content, understand positive choices about who/what is trustworthy online, challenge extremist narratives and consider the consequences of their actions online.

Going Too Far? also has a dedicated SEND and Inclusion area where a number of additional resources have been created in to support the inclusion of as wide a range of learners as possible, whether this is related to a special educational need, EAL or simply different learning styles. These include:

• Videos with audio narration
• Text versions of the dialogue
• Plain text transcripts
• A slide deck of differentiated questions

Aimed at secondaries, the resource is also suitable for transition and easily adaptable for primaries. All activities can be customised and used as standalone lessons or incorporated into existing plans for assemblies, lessons and schemes of work.

Virtual Conference: Understanding Autism Through The Actually Autistic Lens 19 - 21 October (Held in the US)

Understanding Autism Through The Actually Autistic Lens is a virtual conference dedicated to autistic voices to better provide perspectives to those who serve and advocate for the autistic community.

If you aren't familiar with the phrase Actually Autistic you should check it out on social media. There is really active community of people who are autistic and helpfully share insights into their world and their experiences. 

At times you may find your current beliefs and practices challenged, but this is wonderful and something we should all embrace if we truly wish to do better for our autistic learners!
