Dear Mubina,

When did you last carry out the "annual review of your approach to online safety" recommended in KCSIE? How have you included updates to the DfE Standards and new harms like gen AI?  And what about approaches for Early Years in non-school-based settings?

We have two tools to help you - one new and one updated for 2025!

  1. Online Safety Audit & Risk Assessment (for schools - UPDATE)
  2. Online Safety Audit for Early Years (for non-school-based settings - NEW)
  3.

Updated Online Safety Audit (Schools)

OSA
  • We have updated our online safety audit for schools with lots of questions that you can give a RAG (red-amber-green) rating to and add your evidence and action points.
  • Key things to focus on in the new 2025 version are the updates to the DfE standards in October 2024 and the proliferation of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tools, whether in regard to school use thereof, filtering and monitoring or covering in the classroom.
  • Click here to find out here how one school used the LGfL Online Safety Audit to transform their response and provide the evidence that made an Ofsted Inspector say "wow!".
  • And don't forget to share these results with your school governors/trustees and incorporate into your overall Section 175 / LA safeguarding audit.

Early Years Online Safety Audit (non-schools-based)

EYOSA

With increasing numbers of younger children accessing digital media, early years settings need to consider a holistic approach to keeping children safe online. This early years audit can help review and evidence your provision, policies and practice, and identify any areas for development.

This DfE guide links to our work. Why not use the free Policy Guide for Digital Media Use and Online Safeguarding in Early Years Settings, to help reflect on your use of digital media and online safeguarding in your setting. This also includes a 10-point charter to help you outline your key principles around digital media use and online safeguarding.

You can find additional resources and guidance for early years professionals and teachers at eysafe.lgfl.net.
